Description

30 and 32 Green Lane are a pair of houses built in the early to mid 19th century. They are constructed from coursed squared killas with granite dressings and feature a slate roof and brick chimneys. The buildings have a double-depth plan, with No. 30 being double-fronted and No. 32 single-fronted, both having rear extensions.

The houses are two storeys high and consist of five bays in total. Granite quoins are present at the corners and all openings. No. 30 has a symmetrical three-bay facade, with a central doorway that is sheltered by a fine later 19th-century five-sided panelled and glazed porch-cum-conservatory. This porch features double doors at the front and windows on the other sides, all adorned with cusped ogee tracery in the heads and spandrels, along with blue stained glass displaying foliated patterns. The panels below the windows exhibit raised linen-fold decoration, and there is a green glazed frieze with closely spaced S-shaped scrolls and egg-and-dart decoration above, topped by a prominent moulded cornice. The ground floor has large tripartite sashed windows, while the upper floor features horned four-pane sashes.

No. 32, located to the left, has a two-bay facade with a recessed door in the second bay and a sashed window above. The first bay contains a two-storey canted bay window with sashes on both floors. There is a ridge chimney at the junction of the two houses and a gable chimney to the left. The rear of the buildings is of less interest, and the interiors were not inspected.
