Description
No. 5 Symons Terrace is a house, now used as an office, dating from the early to mid 19th century. It features cross-wall construction with stone cross walls and slate-hung front and rear walls, topped with a slate roof and brick chimneys. The building has a rectangular double-depth plan and includes a projecting rear stair turret. It is two storeys high and has three symmetrical bays. The plinth is made of granite blocks, and there is a central doorway flanked by pilaster jambs, topped with a cornice on consoles and a recessed panelled door that has a rectangular overlight. The ground floor has two 4-pane sashed windows, while the upper floor has three. The hipped roof has projecting eaves and end-wall chimneys. A former shop attached to the right-hand end is not of special interest. At the rear, the stair turret features a round-headed stair window with radiating glazing bars and a hipped roof. The interior has not been inspected.
