Description
Carlton House is a town house that has been converted into a dental surgery. It dates from the late 17th century and features 18th-century window designs. The front is made of dressed squared stone, with some smaller stone used in a later raised top storey, while the gable is constructed from rubble and the back is rendered. The front roof is covered in stone slate, and the back roof is clay tile. The building has a broad frontage with a long back extension on the right side and two ashlar chimneys that have been raised in brick.
The house is three storeys high and has two continuous stone drip moulds at the floor levels. There are three sash windows on the top floor, six on the first floor, and four on the ground floor, all featuring glazing bars. Additionally, there are two cellar openings with stone surrounds and drip moulds. The entrance includes a six-panel door, which has two glazed panels, and is topped with a timber hood supported by brackets.
Inside, the property retains an oak staircase with a heavy handrail and twisted balusters. The ceiling beams have stopped cyma moulding, and there are three-panel doors with decorative panel edges. The ground floor room features a bolection mould fire surround, along with overmantel and shelf recesses.
