Description
The chimney stack, located approximately 60 metres north of Wheal Tehidy House, is a Grade II listed structure. It was part of a former pumping engine house that was disused between 1834 and 1842. The chimney features a squared coursed granite base and a coursed granite rubble shaft. It has an octagonal base with vertical sides and a thin string course beneath a battered rubble shaft. The original brick top section has been removed.
Historically, this chimney is the last surviving part of the Wheal Tehidy mine, which operated from 1834 to 1842 and again from 1851 to 1864. The base of the chimney is a distinctive architectural feature that is not commonly found on Cornish engine houses. It occupies a prominent position in the landscape, with nearby stacks from the former East Pool and Wheal Tolgus mines contributing to this significant industrial area.
