Description

Parkhenver is a house that was formerly a convent, built in the mid-19th century. It features pink killas ashlar with side walls of rubble brought to courses, and granite ashlar quoins and dressings, topped with a slurried slate roof. The building has a rectangular plan and is two storeys high with three bays on each side, arranged symmetrically.

The south front has a wide pedimented center that projects forward, featuring a prominent canted bay window on the ground floor and a tripartite sashed window above. Both of these windows have pilastered architraves and cornices supported by consoles. The outer bays have large pedimented architraves for the ground floor windows, also with consoles, and raised plain architraves for the upper windows. All windows are sashed and have unusual glazing, with one horizontal glazing bar in each leaf.

The entrance front to the east includes a large rectangular porch in a similar style, centrally located, with a panelled outer door, a large overlight, round-headed side windows, and a segmental-headed inner door with side windows, all matching the overall style. The roof is hipped with projecting eaves and features a ridge chimney.

Inside, there is a fine curved dog-legged staircase with slender colonette balusters, but the rest of the interior was not inspected. The building was constructed by the Penrose family.
