House About 2 Metres West Of Higher Trengale Farmhouse

This building is a house located about 2 metres west of Higher Trengale Farmhouse. It is likely the original farmhouse at Higher Trengale, but now only one room remains. The house dates from the mid-17th century and has undergone later alterations. It is constructed from slatestone rubble with granite quoins and is partly slate-hung. The roof is made of slurried slate with ridge tiles and gable ends, featuring a gable end stack to the left with a brick chimney.

The surviving plan consists of one room, which likely served as a kitchen, with an entrance at the front that was probably added in the mid-19th century. The room is heated by the gable end stack. The house would have originally extended further to the right. There is an integral outshut at the rear and a later outshut, possibly from the 18th century, attached to the left side.

The exterior is two storeys high with an asymmetrical two-window arrangement. The ground floor features a recessed doorway with a 20th-century four-centred arched door and sidelights, and the wall above the doorway is slate-hung. To the right of the entrance is a six-pane light with a timber lintel and a small single light. On the first floor, there is a two-light six-pane casement with L hinges and a timber lintel, along with a narrow single light with a timber lintel to the right. The right side of the building is blind and lacks quoins. The left side has a one-storey outshut with a loft, which includes an unglazed window with a plain granite lintel at the front, concealing an external stack with an oven at the base. The integral outshut at the rear has a four-panelled door on the left side with a three-pane casement above. The interior is not accessible.
