Description
The Wayside Cross, located approximately 27 meters south of Great Fursenewth, is a medieval Christian wayside cross made of granite. It features a long shaft with a roughly square cross section. The cross is roughly hewn and has a decorative wheel-head on a tall shaft, which is set in a modern base. The cross stands about 1.6 meters high, with a round head that measures 0.5 meters in diameter and a shaft that averages 0.33 meters across. Both faces of the head display an equal-limbed cross in relief, surrounded by a wide beading. The cross has some damage, including a missing V-shaped piece at the top, and there are two in-filled holes on the shaft, which relate to its former use as a gatepost.
