Description

A row of four estate houses dating to around 1840, situated on Quay Road in St Germans, with limited later alterations. The houses are constructed of slatestone rubble. They have 2-span slate roofs with gable ends and brick chimney shafts, including gable end stacks and a central axial stack.

The houses follow a double-depth plan, with one room to the front and one to the rear of each house. Each pair of houses shares a central porch. The outer rooms are heated by gable end stacks, while the inner rooms are heated by a central axial stack with back-to-back fireplaces.

Numbers 1 and 2 are on the right side of the row and feature a central gabled porch with raised coped verges and kneelers, and modern doors set internally at an angle to the left and right. They have 2-light 2-pane casement windows with segmental heads. At the first floor, there are two hipped half-dormers; Number 2 has a 2-light 2-pane casement, and Number 1 retains its original 2-light 10-pane casement with L hinges.

Numbers 3 and 4 are on the left side of the row and have a similar gabled porch with internal 4-panelled doors. They also have casement windows at ground floor and hipped half-dormers above. The dormer to Number 3 retains its original glazing. A single-storey lean-to is attached to the left side.

The interiors were not inspected.
