Description
Higher Lodge is a lodge built in the late 18th century, designed in a style that appears earlier. It is constructed from coursed sandstone rubble with limestone dressings and quoins, topped with a slate roof. The building likely has a double depth plan with the entrance located to the right and a later wing set back slightly to the left.
The lodge is two storeys high with a low pitched gabled front featuring three bays, plus an additional later bay on the left. The ground floor includes a plain doorway on the right with a part glazed door, alongside two 12-paned sash windows. On the first floor, there is a central arched 12-pane sash window flanked by thermal windows, all featuring glazing bars and set within unmoulded architraves. A string course runs along the first floor. The left wing has a 6-pane window below and a 12-pane window above. The interior has not been inspected. The building's deliberately archaic design makes it challenging to determine its exact date.
