Description
Higher Goneva Farmhouse, with adjoining outbuildings at South End, dates from the late 18th century. It is a farmhouse adjoined by a former cottage and domestic outbuilding. The farmhouse is built of coursed dressed granite with granite dressings, and has a wheat reed thatched roof with brick chimneys over the gable ends. The cottage section has a grouted scantle slate roof with granite coping, a moulded kneeler to the front, and a brick gable chimney. The single-storey outbuilding also has a scantle slate roof.
The farmhouse has a two-room plan, with a cross passage between the wider kitchen/living room on the left and the parlour on the right. A one-room plan cottage was added circa early 19th century to the right. Further 19th-century additions include a pantry lean-to at the rear, centrally located, and single-storey service rooms set at right angles to the front on the far right.
The west front is two storeys high and appears nearly symmetrical, with a 3-window front to the original farmhouse and a 1-window front to the former cottage. The farmhouse's central doorway has a 19th-century panelled door with round-headed panels. The cottage has its original 4-panel door within a 20th-century lean-to porch. Circa early 19th-century 16-pane sashes are found on the ground floor of the farmhouse and cottage. Other windows are later 19th or 20th-century horned sashes. The interior was not inspected.
