Description
Penrose Hill Cottage is a small house dating from the early 19th century. It is constructed of killas rubble with granite lintels and features a fairly steep Delabole slate roof that slopes lower at the rear, along with brick end stacks. The cottage has a shallow double-depth plan and stands two storeys high with a symmetrical two-window front. The original windows are 12-pane hornless sashes, and the central doorway has a four-panel door with the top panels later glazed.
Inside, the cottage retains most of its original carpentry and joinery features, including moulded joists, four-panel doors, some cupboard doors, and a dogleg staircase with a turned newel post, a swan-neck ramped handrail, and stick balusters on the top flight. The roof structure is supported by nailed and pegged collar trusses.
