Description
Penrose Hill is a small house built in the mid-19th century. It is constructed from killas rubble with granite dressings and features a grouted scantle slate hipped roof with projecting eaves. The house has brick end stacks and cast-iron ogee gutters. The layout is a double-depth plan, and it stands two storeys high with a symmetrical three-window front. The original windows are hornless sashes with margin panes, and there is a central doorway with a four-panel door. At the rear, there is a tall arch-headed stair window with Gothic style glazing.
Inside, the house retains many original carpentry and joinery features, including a moulded arch in the entrance hall, four-panel doors, and an arched fireplace in the parlour on the right, which is flanked by arched alcoves. The dogleg stairs feature a turned newel post, a swan-necked ramped handrail, and stick balusters leading to the landing.
