Description
The Old Farmhouse at Tregardock, along with the barn adjoining to the rear, is a farmhouse and barn that likely dates from the early to mid 17th century. It was partly remodeled in the mid 18th century and had its eaves raised in the early 19th century. The building is constructed of rendered stone rubble and features a rag slate roof with gable ends and a hipped end on the rear wing. There are stone rubble end stacks.
The farmhouse has an overall T-shaped plan, with the front range facing southwest. It consists of two rooms and a cross passage plan, with both rooms heated by end stacks. The rear kitchen wing has a one-room plan and was also heated by an end stack, although the shaft has since been removed. It is unclear if the rear wing was built at the same time as the front range. The front range was partly remodeled in the mid 18th century, and the eaves were raised in the early 19th century.
The exterior of the farmhouse is two storeys high and has an asymmetrical two-window front. The ground floor features four-pane sash windows and an entrance near the center, while the upper floor has six-pane and four-pane sash windows. The barn, which is possibly from the 18th century, is made of stone rubble and has a rag slate roof with a hipped end on the rear left. It is rectangular in plan and was likely added to the left side of the rear wing in the 18th century, containing shippons on the ground floor and a loft above. The interiors were not accessible at the time of the survey in 1986.
