Description
The Bake House is a building that dates from around the mid-18th century and is now a private residence. It is constructed of stone rubble and features a slate roof with gable ends. On the right-hand gable end, there is a projecting stone rubble stack that originally housed several cloam ovens, which have since been removed.
The original layout consisted of two rooms with a central entrance. The entrance likely led directly into the right-hand room, which was heated by an end stack and included the large semi-circular projection for the cloam ovens. The smaller left-hand room was probably separated by a timber screen and appears to have been unheated. In the early 19th century, outshot extensions were added to both the right and left gable ends, and these were partly remodeled in the mid to late 20th century.
The exterior features two storeys and has an almost symmetrical front with two windows, which contain 4-pane sashes, and a 20th-century door set within a 20th-century porch. The outshot extensions from the 19th century have also been remodeled in the 20th century.
Inside, the screen partitioning of the left-hand room has been removed to create one large room, and the fireplace has been partly remodeled. The Bake House is part of a group of buildings in the picturesque village of Treligga.
