Description
The Engine House at East Wheal Lovell is a beam engine house dating from the mid-19th century. It is constructed from granite and elvan rubble, featuring granite dressings. Most openings are topped with round brick arches, and there is a rubble chimney with a brick upper stage set over a moulded brick collar. The building has a rectangular one-room plan, with a thicker front wall and a round chimney that engages the rear wall on the left side. It stands two storeys high over a basement plinth, and the elevations remain unaltered. The front wall has a central round-headed opening, while the rear gable wall features central round-headed openings on both the ground floor and first floor. It is noted that the lintel between the basement opening and the ground floor opening has either fallen or been removed. The interior has had its machinery and roof structure removed.
