Description

The Driftwood Spars is a public house that was originally linked to the mining industry and later served as sail and net lofts. It dates from the 18th century and was extended around the early 19th century. The building features painted rubble with hardwood lintels over most openings and brick arches over others. It has grouted scantle slate hipped roofs and lateral brick chimneys, one on the front wall towards the left and another over the cross party wall.

The structure consists of two rectangular buildings, with the older building situated on lower ground to the left. The exterior is three storeys high and largely unaltered, showcasing a six-window south-west front across two levels. The older, lower two-window front on the left has a central doorway flanked by windows, with additional windows on each floor above the right-hand window and two other window openings. The later, more regular four-window front on the right features a wide doorway, which may have originally been a window opening that was later enlarged. The ground floor windows date from the late 19th or early 20th century, while the other windows are more recent but remain in their original openings. Inside, the building retains original roughly-hewn cross beams and joists, along with what are likely original roof structures.
