Description

Kernewas Farmhouse and the adjoining outbuildings to the west date from the early 19th century. The farmhouse is built of rubble stone with granite quoins and lintels above the ground floor openings. The first floor features brick segmental arches. It has a hipped, cement-washed slate roof with a gable end on the rear projecting wing and tall chimney stacks at the hipped ends. The building has an L-shaped plan and is two storeys high, with a symmetrical two-wing front. The central entrance features a double glazed 20th-century door with glazing bars, flanked by two 16-pane sash windows on both the ground and first floors, with a blind window above the entrance. On the east side, there is a stair window with a tall sash and gothic glazing bars.

To the west, there is a shippon and loft with a cartshed in the center, currently used as a store. This structure is also made of rubble stone and has a half hipped slate roof. It is two storeys high and symmetrical, featuring a central arched opening with segmental slate arches and a central loading door above, flanked by very small openings. There are stairs to the loft at the rear. The farmhouse is linked to the outbuildings by a single-storey, one-bay cartshed with a large cambered lintel and a corrugated roof. The interior of the farmhouse has not been inspected.
