Description
Grugwith Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the late 18th century, with its front possibly remodeled in the early 19th century. It is constructed of rubble stone and cob, featuring slate hung in diminishing courses at the front, with a lozenge pattern on each side of the first-floor windows. The roof is half-hipped, made of cement-washed scantle slate, and has brick chimneys at the hipped ends. The building is two rooms deep with a wide central hallway, a cross passage, and a staircase to the right. It is two storeys high and has a cellar. The symmetrical front has three windows, with two 12-pane sash windows (without horns) on the ground floor and three above. The central door is wide and panelled, dating from the 18th century. Inside, the farmhouse retains intact late 18th-century joinery, including panelled shutters, moulded dado cornices in the reception room on the right, and a carved timber surround to a blocked fireplace in the room to the rear on the left. All doorcases are moulded, featuring 18th-century two-panelled doors with HL hinges on the ground floor. The roof timbers have been replaced.
