Description
The building is an outbuilding that includes stables with lofts above, a coach house, and a millhouse, dating from the early 19th century. It is likely contemporary with the rebuilding or addition to the Rectory nearby. The structure is made of squared stone laid in courses, with stone dressings around the voussoirs. It has a slate roof with slates extending to the hips. The stable range, which has lofts above, is built into the slope of the land, providing first-floor access to the rear of the lofts.
At either end, there are hipped front projections that house the coach house and accommodation for milling machinery. A mill pit is located in a lean-to adjoining the right end. Above the coach house, there is accommodation for the coachman, along with a brick chimney. The loft adjoining the mill pit retains a large beam and some machinery housing. The voussoirs above the coach entrance, stable entrances, and one entrance to the lofts feature scratch mouldings. The lofts have roofs supported by kingposts and struts, with ventilators at the rear.
The coach house has a pair of timber doors with v-jointed vertical boards and a chamfered frame, featuring large strap hinges with decorative finials. There is a 19th-century two-light window frame above the carriage entrance, which has a central wooden mullion and iron stanchions, with slightly cambered heads. Unlike the Rectory, the stone walling of the Coach House, Stables, and Millhouse was designed to be visible.
