Description

This is a pair of small townhouses, built in the early to mid-19th century in Penryn. They are part of a row of six houses at 21-27 West Street. The houses are faced with killas stone and have granite dressings, with an asbestos slate roof over numbers 21 and 23, and dry slate roofing elsewhere. They have brick end stacks and a cast-iron ogee gutter on numbers 21 and 23. Each house has a double-depth plan with one room at the front. The houses present a two-storey, six-window facade. There are two symmetrical three-window fronts, each featuring a blind central window above the pair of doorways. The original windows are 16-pane hornless sashes, with 20th-century replacements in number 21. Original six-panel doors with squat overlights remain, except at number 27, which has a 20th-century panelled door. The blind windows on numbers 21 and 23 have a painted relief of a 16-pane window. The interior has not been inspected. The row of houses is a good example of 19th-century architecture.
