Description

Penrose Farm Cottage is a pair of farm workers' cottages built around the mid-19th century. The front is made of granite ashlar, while the rest is constructed from granite rubble. The cottages have a dry Delabole slate roof at the front, with the rear being reslated at the time of the survey. The roof features projecting eaves and verges, along with a large central axial brick stack and smaller gable end stacks, all adorned with stepped strings, caps, and cogged cornices.

The plan consists of an identical double-depth layout for both cottages, each likely containing a small parlour and a kitchen at the front, with an entrance lobby or axial passage accessed from doorways at either end. There is also a service room within a narrower and shallow rear outshut. The exterior is two storeys high, with a symmetrical four-window southeast front that has no doorways. The windows are late 19th or early 20th century 12-pane horned sashes in their original openings. Each gable end features a doorway with old ledged doors and an overlight. The interior has not been inspected.
