2 Swanston Village, Edinburgh

2 Swanston Village in Edinburgh is a pair of single-storey farmworkers' cottages built around 1850, with alterations and extensions made in 1933. The cottages are arranged in a symmetrical design and constructed from coursed stugged sandstone, featuring droved edges and ashlar dressings, with harled brick extensions at the rear. The openings have architraved surrounds, with semicircular panels at the top of the principal and side elevations. The gables are coped.

On the west (principal) elevation, the plans are reversed, featuring a slightly off-centre entrance for each cottage, which includes a boarded timber door and a 2-pane rectangular fanlight. There is a 2-light window with a timber mullion in the inner bay, which was originally a single light but was modified in 1933. A small window is located in the outer bay.

The east (rear) elevation has a single-storey, flat-roofed extension for each cottage, each with an entrance and flanking windows, plus an additional window on the right side of No 1.

Both the north and south elevations have a single window in each gable end. The cottages mainly feature 12 and 8-pane timber sash and case windows. The main body of the terrace has slate roofs, while the rear extensions have flat leaded roofs. There are two corniced gablehead stacks, one at the centre of the ridge, with round and decorative octagonal cans. The cottages also have cast-iron rainwater goods. The interiors were not inspected in 1997.
