7 Swanston Village, Edinburgh

8 Swanston Village in Edinburgh is a pair of single-storey farmworkers' cottages built around 1850 and altered or extended in 1933. The cottages are set into a slight incline and feature a symmetrical design. They are constructed from coursed stugged sandstone, with droved edges and droved ashlar dressings, while the rear and side extensions are harled.

On the principal (east) elevation, the plans are reversed, with a slightly off-centre entrance for each cottage that includes a boarded timber door and a two-pane rectangular fanlight. Each cottage has a two-light window with a timber mullion in the inner bay, which was originally a single light before being modified in 1933. There is also a small window towards the outer bay.

The rear (west) elevation consists of a single-storey, flat-roofed extension for each cottage, each with an entrance flanked by narrow windows and an additional window to the left of No 8. The north and south elevations each feature a single window in the gable ends.

The cottages mainly have 12 and 8-pane timber sash and case windows. The main body of the terrace has slate roofs, while the rear extensions have flat leaded roofs. There are two corniced gablehead stacks, one at the centre of the ridge, with round and decorative octagonal cans. The cottages also feature cast-iron rainwater goods. The interior was not inspected in 1997.
