Description
The Cottage is an early 18th-century cottage that was altered in the mid-19th century. It is rendered with limestone dressings and features lateral stacks, although the roof is not visible. The building has a double-depth plan, is two storeys tall with a basement, and has a three-window range. The front is symmetrical, featuring a full-height porch and a doorway that leads to a half-glazed inner door. The windows are 8/8-pane sashes, with 6/6-panes above the door. The rear elevation includes pilasters leading to a moulded parapet coping, a mid-19th-century moulded ashlar doorway, and a niche on the first floor. Inside, there is a through hall that leads to the back door, a right-hand front winder dogleg stair with stick balusters and column newels, and six-panel doors. This cottage is a rare example in Clifton of a house that predates the suburb's development.
