Description

Numbers 25 and 26 are a pair of attached houses built around 1720 by John Price. They are made of brick with limestone dressings, featuring party wall stacks and a pantile roof, showcasing an early Georgian style. Each house has three storeys and a three-window range, highlighted by brick pilasters, moulded strings at each floor, and a coped parapet. The outer doorways, located between the end windows, have framed and panelled canopies on brackets, with a 10-panel door for No. 26 and a 6-panel door for No. 25. The windows are adorned with brick flat arches and brick keys, containing 6/6-pane sashes in flush frames. No. 25 has full-width slate-hung dormers. Although the interior was not inspected, it is noted to have good dogleg stairs with column-on-vase balusters, panelled rooms, cornices, and 6-panel doors. The houses also feature attached front area railings and a square gas wall lamp at the left-hand corner. This property is part of a well-preserved early Georgian terrace, which includes the slightly later Nos. 27-29. The street was laid out in 1716, with varying plans for different clients and common elevations.
