Description

This is a warehouse dating from the 19th century, originally located on Hobb’s Lane but previously listed under Denmark Street. It is constructed of pennant rubble with stone dressings, and has a 20th-century pantile roof. The rectangular building is five storeys high and has a seven-window front. The elevations are symmetrical and austere, featuring quoins, a plinth, and a 20th-century ashlar parapet. The small openings are characterized by tooled voussoirs at the segmental-arched heads. Doorways are positioned in the first, third, and seventh bays, with small, square, barred windows in the first, third, fifth, and seventh bays. Wider hoist openings are located in the second and sixth bays; a central bay is blind, but has paired windows on the ground floor extending over paired basement arches with massive segmental-arched lintels. The rear elevation is similar, with two-window returns. The interior has not been inspected. It is a noteworthy example of a strictly utilitarian building in a conservative style.
