Description

A terrace of five houses, now offices, built in 1722. The buildings are stuccoed with limestone dressings, have brick party wall stacks, and a pantile mansard roof. They are arranged in a double-depth plan and are three storeys high with an attic and basement, each house having a two-window front. The façade is articulated by rusticated pilaster strips to a moulded coping. The outer pairs of houses each have a front doorway; Number 23 is on the left. There are timber canopies supported on thin brackets over the doorways, with moulded frames and six-panel doors having glazed upper panels. The recessed windows have exposed frames and six-pane sashes. Two tall dormers have six-pane sashes. The interior features a panelled hall with an elliptical arch leading to fully-panelled ground-floor rooms. A dogleg winder stair has column-on-vase balusters, square newels, and a moulded rail, with six-panel doors and shutters throughout. Attached to the front are wrought-iron railings and gates with urn finials. The terrace was probably built by John Price for speculative letting.
