Description

Stoke Park Hospital, Elm Ward is a mid 19th century house located on Park Road in Stapleton, Bristol. The building is constructed of Bath stone ashlar and Pennant rubble, featuring an interlocking tile hipped roof and rendered stacks. It has an L-shaped, double-depth plan and stands two storeys tall with a three-window range. The central section is slightly recessed and includes a plain frieze, cornice, and parapet. A central Tuscan portico is raised on Pennant flags. To the left, there is a large late 19th century bay window with three 6/6-pane sashes, plain mullions, and a parapet. The right-hand ground-floor window is set in a recessed surround with a small floating cornice on consoles, and there is a similar first-floor window above the portico, flanked by plain windows on either side. Inside, the central entrance hall features an acanthus cornice and is divided by a flat arch, leading to a stair on the left with cast-iron foliate banisters, a wreathed handrail, and panelled shutters. The building is now part of Purdown Hospital.
