Description

Stoke Cliffe is a house, now converted into flats, built in the early 19th century with some 20th-century additions. The exterior is finished in stucco with Pennant and limestone ashlar dressings, topped by a slate hipped and gabled roof with rendered stacks. The building has a double-depth plan and is designed in the Italianate style, featuring two storeys and a basement with a seven-window range.

The front of the building is symmetrical, with deep eaves and a later addition on the left side. The shallow, gabled centre projects forward and includes three tall, arched recesses framed by plain, tooled surrounds, with a door and overlight located in the right-hand recess. The windows are plain, fitted with 6/6-pane sashes, and there are grilled openings to illuminate the basement. On the left side, there is a Venetian oriel window topped with its original Roman tile roof.

A rubble stone tunnel leads around to the right, providing access to the rear terraced garden. The basement, located beneath a vaulted ground-floor terrace, features late 20th-century sliding French windows. The ground-floor wings project forward and are adorned with a full-width cast-iron verandah and tripartite windows. The interior has not been inspected.
