Description

Beaufort House is an early 18th-century house with later 19th-century front alterations, located on Park Road, Stapleton, Bristol. It is constructed with a render over Pennant rubble, and has limestone ashlar dressings, a pantile hipped roof, and rendered stacks. The house is arranged with a double-depth, central hall plan, and has two storeys and an attic, with a five-window range and a two-window range in the left side block.

The symmetrical front exhibits rusticated quoins, sill bands, a modillion cornice, and a parapet, featuring open lattice sections. A central porch has Ionic three-quarter columns, an entablature, a dentil cornice, and an open lattice parapet above. The windows are elaborate, with aprons, moulded cills on flat brackets, shouldered architraves with deep moulded keys and cornices on the ground floor, and plate-glass sashes. The left-hand block has four-pane sashes. Three attic dormers are present.

Inside, the house features a large hall with an open-well stair. The stair has quarter landings at the back, fluted newel posts rising between floors, pyramid pendants below, and barley sugar balusters. One front right room has an elaborate panelled plaster ceiling sculpted with deeply undercut fruit and flowers.

The property includes an attached garden wall which is ramped at either end and features central gate piers with pineapples.
