Description
The Grange is a house dating from circa 1690. It is constructed of squared Pennant rubble with ashlar and limestone dressings, with Pennant rubble and brick detailing, and has a hipped pantile roof and rendered stacks on either side of the main block. The house has a double-depth plan with projecting wings. It is three storeys high, and the main block originally had a three-window front, with a two-storey, single-window range to the projecting wings. The front façade is symmetrical, featuring quoin strips composed of alternating thick and thin quoins, moulded ground and first-floor strings, and a cornice coping to the parapet. The doorcase has plain reveals and a flat hood supported by scrolled brackets, leading to a door with six fielded panels and a four-light rectangular overlight. Flat rubble arches, segmental on the first floor, contain four-pane sashes, while the second floor has two-pane sashes. A blocked basement opening is visible on the right-hand side. The wings incorporate ground-floor blind brick arches with keys and imposts, containing six-pane sashes. The right return has a nine-pane sash, and the left return is bowed, featuring a plat band and cornice coping, with a three-window range.
Inside, a large hall is divided by three segmental arches with panelled soffits. A lateral staircase has a curtail and wreathed rail, and there is a bolection-moulded fireplace. External features include a rubble front area wall with steps leading to the front door.
