Description
This is a terrace of three houses located at 19, 21, and 23 Ashley Road, Bristol, dating from around 1820. The houses are constructed of limestone ashlar with brick stacks and a pantile mansard roof. They are arranged with a double-depth plan and are built in a late Georgian style.
Each house stands three storeys high with a basement and an attic, and features a two-window front. Standard features include pilasters, a cornice, and a parapet. The left-hand house has a pedimented doorway with a fanlight above a six-panel door. The ground and second-floor windows are 8/8-pane sashes, while the first floor features paired French windows that open onto a wrought-iron verandah.
The interior includes an acroteria cornice and a post table in the hall, a dogleg staircase, reeded fireplaces with roundels and cast-iron grates, and working gas lamps. The plots on which the houses stand were laid out by James Foster in 1816.
