Description

The Adam and Eve Public House is a mid 18th century establishment located on Hope Chapel Hill in Hotwells, Bristol. It features a rendered exterior, a clinker basement, a brick party wall stack, and a hipped pantile roof. The building has a double-depth plan and is designed in a mid Georgian style, standing three storeys tall with a basement and a two-window range.

The ground floor projects and includes a right-hand doorway alongside a tripartite plate-glass window with pilaster jambs and a cornice. Clasping pilaster strips are present behind the boxed eaves, and the windows are fitted with horned plate-glass sashes in flush frames. The right-hand return of the building shows a clinker-clad basement, with exposed frames for the rear windows, which include 4/4-pane sashes and 8/8-pane sashes on the right.

Inside, the ground floor is open-plan and features a mid 18th century semicircular-arched entrance doorway, complete with a key and cornice, a leaded fanlight, and a four-panel door leading to a 19th century stair flight.
