Description

The Volunteer Tavern is an 18th and early 19th century public house located on New Street in Bristol. It is of group value. The exterior is roughcast over a rubble base, with gable and ridge stacks and a pantile roof. The building has a double-depth plan and extends to three storeys, with a three-window front. The façade is asymmetrical, incorporating an 18th-century two-window range that was extended in the early 19th century. A 20th-century door is positioned in the centre of the ground floor. The ground floor features a 10/10-pane window to the right and a canted bay to the left. The first floor has two 6/6-pane sash windows and an 8/8-pane sash window, all in exposed frames, along with two 20th-century casements to the right. There were formerly two cross windows on the second floor. The interior was not inspected.
