Description
Number 3 is a house built in 1822 in the Neoclassical style. It is located on Dowry Square in Hotwells, Bristol. The house is constructed of limestone ashlar, with party wall stacks and a pantile roof. It has a double-depth plan and three storeys with an attic and basement, featuring a three-window facade. The front is composed, with the ground floor sections broken forward below a moulded band, and giant pilasters on the upper floors extending to an entablature and parapet. The left-hand doorway contains a rectangular overlight and a six-panel door. The ground-floor windows are plain, while the upper windows have incised surrounds and are fitted with six/six-pane sashes, taller on the first floor. There are two hipped dormers in the attic. The interior of the house has not been inspected. Attached to the front are wrought-iron basement area railings and a gate, featuring urn finials. Dowry Square was laid out in 1720, with building continuing until 1750, and originally featured both five-window middle houses and outer three-window houses, of brick. These have since been altered or replaced.
