Description
Polygon Lodge is a house dating circa 1840, located on North Green Street in Hotwells, Bristol. The building is rendered with limestone dressings, has a rubble basement, and a slate roof that is curved and hipped on the right-hand side. The house follows a single-depth plan and features Gothick style windows. The single-storey and basement structure has a three-window facade. The overhanging eaves of the curved right-hand end feature a two-centred arched doorway with sunken spandrels and a drip mould, containing a lattice-panelled door. The windows are semicircular-arched with drip moulds, containing 3/6-pane horned sashes with interlacing heads. A segmental-arched basement opening is framed with Pennant dressings and a two-leaf door. The interior of the lodge was not inspected. An attached red rubble wall extends approximately 10 metres from the north end of the house, following its curve, and incorporates a two-centred arched brick doorway. Adjacent to the doorway is an octagonal Pennant gate base, likely from the lodge's original function of controlling access to the rear of The Polygon.
