Description

Number 7 is an attached house located in Dowry Square, Hotwells, Bristol, built around 1725 by George Tully. It features stucco over brick, brick party wall stacks, and a pantile double-pile roof, following an early Georgian style. The house has three storeys, an attic, and a basement, with a three-window range. It is part of a terrace of three houses that are distinguished by rusticated pilaster strips, moulded bands at the ground and first floors, and a moulded coping.

The right-hand doorway is adorned with fluted Ionic pilasters, an entablature, and a segmental broken pediment, along with a three-pane overlight and a six-panel door. The windows have lintels with five rusticated voussoirs and feature 4/4-pane sashes in flush frames, complemented by a slate hipped dormer.

Inside, the entrance hall is separated by a semicircular keyed arch from a rear dogleg stair that has an uncut string, column balusters, and square newels. The interior also includes two-panel doors, panelled shutters, and fireplaces.

The property has attached front basement area walls, capped piers, and wrought-iron railings. Dowry Square was laid out by Tully in 1720, with construction continuing until 1750. The design originally included a five-window middle house and outer three-window houses on each side, which were made of brick but have since been altered and mostly rendered.
