Office. c1830, rebuilt internally c1970. Limestone ashlar, lateral ashlar stacks, roof not visible. Double-depth plan. Greek Revival style. 3 storeys, attic and basement; 6-window range. A symmetrical front has a moulded plinth, forming the bases to 4 giant pilasters to a frieze and dentil cornice, with a central section of balustrade; a band below the first-floor sill band has a relief of palmettes. The entrance is slightly recessed with attached, fluted Ionic columns to an entablature, double 16-panel doors and an 8-pane overlight. 2:2:2 windows with battered architraves, console cornices to the ground floor, console pediments to the first-floor middle windows, and eared architraves the rest. 6/6-pane horned sashes, 3/6-panes on the second floor, and a C20 attic storey set back behind the balustrade. To the left is a single storey porch with half pilasters to an entablature, double 6-panel door and a grille above. INTERIOR: completely rebuilt behind the facade c1970. Follows from the Old Council House 1822-27 (qv) to the left, with matching capitals and ground-floor frieze. (Gomme A: Street Index of Buildings of Architectural or Historic Interest: 9).
