Description
Nos. 2-12 Division Street is a former water works company office, now used as offices, built in 1867. The building has been restored and converted in the late 20th century. It is constructed of brick with an ashlar front and dressings, and features a single ridge stack. Designed in the Classical Revival style, it includes a plinth, an impost band, a string course, a sill band, a dentilled cornice, and an open balustrade with piers topped with urns. A central datestone displays a carved crest.
The building is two storeys high, plus a basement, and has a seven-window range of plain sashes with moulded architraves and raised panels between them. The ground floor is arcaded, featuring moulded round arches with enrichments and mask keystones, supported by granite Doric columns. The central entrance consists of a panelled double door with a plain fanlight, flanked by three windows with cast-iron mullions and transoms.
The left return has plain corner pilasters and five plain sashes on each floor, with brick flat arches above. The right return has three plain sashes on each floor, with the upper right window being blank. There are two chamfered square openings to the basement, and both returns have plain parapets. The interior has not been inspected.
