Description

Dickens and Le Metro is a building originally constructed as a national school in 1812, now functioning as a bar and restaurant. It features brick with stone dressings and has hipped and gabled slate roofs, along with a gable stack. The building has a plinth, a first floor band, and moulded stone eaves and gable bands. It is two storeys tall with a basement and has a six by six window arrangement.

The central block slightly projects and contains four windows, topped with a pediment that holds a name tablet, and is flanked by lower hipped wings with single windows. The central block has four 24-pane sash windows with rusticated keystone lintels. Below these, there are two similar windows flanked by stone doorcases featuring squat engaged columns and flat hoods, leading to panelled double doors. Above the doors, there is a single 16-pane sash window.

The central entrance to the basement, which is a later 20th-century addition, has steps leading down. Each wing has a small 16-pane sash window above and a 24-pane sash window below. The right return of the building has six plain sash windows with rusticated keystone lintels. The rear of the building includes a two-storey late 20th-century addition, and the basement features two bay segmental brick arches.
