Description
No. 1 Broad Street is an attached house that has been converted into offices. It dates from the late 18th century and is possibly the work of architect Thomas Paty. The building is constructed of stucco with limestone dressings, and the roof is not visible. It features a double-depth plan and is designed in the late Georgian style. The structure stands three storeys tall and has a three-window range. It occupies a curved corner site and includes a plate-glass shop front with pilasters that extend through a first-floor sill band to a coped parapet. The first floor has five stepped voussoirs above a plate-glass window and six-pane sashes, while the second floor features three six-pane sashes. The interior has not been inspected. This building is a matching corner site to No. 49 High Street across the way and is part of Paty's extensive rebuilding efforts in the city.
