Description

No. 58 Corn Street is an attached house that has been converted into a shop and office. It was built around 1763 by Thomas Paty and was refaced in 1810. The building features a limestone ashlar facade, although the roof is not visible. It has a double-depth plan and includes a late 19th-century shop front with panelled pilaster jambs, a doorway on the right, and 20th-century plate-glass windows in between. The exterior is enhanced by rusticated quoins, a frieze, a cornice, and a parapet, along with architraves that have pediments on the first floor and plate-glass sash windows. Historically, this building is part of Paty's redevelopment of the area, which was originally constructed in brick before being refaced in ashlar.
