Description

This is a terrace of four shops and offices built around 1840 in Bristol. The building is constructed from limestone ashlar, with the roof hidden. It follows a double-depth plan and stands three storeys high with an attic. The facade is arranged in a curved, stepped terrace, divided by recessed party walls. The design includes an attic sill band, a decorative frieze and cornice featuring two long consoles at each end, and a parapet with raised, coped end sections. Modern shop fronts now occupy the ground floor, but the original design is evident in the surviving shallow, full-width first-floor balconies on the end houses. These balconies feature sinuous cast-iron railings. The original windows remain largely intact, with 6/6-pane sashes on the first floor, 3/6-pane sashes on the second floor, and 3/3-pane sashes in the attic; all have raised surrounds and architraves. The interior of the building has not been inspected.
