Description
Abbotswood is a building that dates from the late 16th century to the early 19th century, originally known as Grove Farmhouse. It consists of three sections that form an L-shaped structure. The eastern section features square panel late timber framing with painted brick infill and a slate roof, standing at one storey with one dormer and three early 19th-century casement windows. The central section is now faced with stucco and has a slate roof with a large central chimney stack; it is two storeys high and has three windows, which include old casements with leaded glazing, except for the centre window. The western section is set at right angles and constructed of red brick with a hipped slate roof, also two storeys tall, featuring one window facing the road with sashes that have glazing bars. The western side facade includes an arched window with Gothic glazing bars above a one-and-a-half storey outshut. The entrance is located at the angle of the L-shape, consisting of a six-panelled door with a flat canopy supported by one column, contributing to the building's picturesque appearance.
