Description
No. 9 Church Street is a house dating from around 1700, with some earlier elements, and was restored around 1965. It is constructed of red brick with a rubble plinth and features a tiled roof with stone slate at the eaves. The house has a large brick chimney stack at the rear and a single-depth plan. It stands two storeys high, with a basement and an attic, and has a four-window range. The ground floor includes a plat band and deep coved eaves, a segmental-arched vehicle entrance on the right, and an entrance on the right side. The windows have flat brick arches over flush frames with horned 6/6-pane sashes, and there are three hipped dormers. The rear of the house features a large central exterior chimney stack with decorative diaper brickwork, which is now enclosed by a mid-20th century extension. Inside, there was originally a through passage at the southwest end, which has been opened up for a garage. The interior also includes part of a newel stair from the entrance lobby, plank and muntin partitions, and original fireplaces. This house is noted as one of the earliest brick-built houses in Poole.
