Description
The Waldegrave Arms Hotel is an early to mid-19th century building that is a pleasantly proportioned hotel in the Georgian style, notable for its size in this small town. It is constructed of coursed and dressed rubble with ashlar quoins and dressings. The hotel features a stepped eaves cornice and a slate roof with coped verges and overshot eaves, topped by a small central ashlar chimney.
The building stands three storeys high with a cellar and has six windows, which are glazing bar sashes, except for the ground floor where there is typical post-war public house glazing and an angular bay. There is now only one doorway, which is centrally located and features a moulded open pediment supported by cut stone brackets, leading to a double half-glazed door. Above this doorway, on the second floor, is a large moulded plaster panel that was intended for an inn sign. Additional architectural features include a plinth and a plain band course at the first and second floor levels, as well as a gabled rear extension.
