Description
The Radstock War Memorial is a First World War memorial created by Messrs Cole and Barton of Radstock, erected in 1925, with later additions for the Second World War and the Iraq Conflict.
It is made of carved Portland Stone and features bronze panels. The monument consists of a Latin cross atop a tall, octagonal shaft, which is adorned with simple blind tracery at the top, just below the cross. The shaft rises from an octagonal plinth that displays several bronze memorial plaques. This plinth is set on three low steps and is surrounded by a low iron railing.
The plaques bear inscriptions that include the years 1939 and 1945 along with names, and they express gratitude to the men of Radstock who fell in defense of their country during the conflicts of 1914 to 1918 and 1939 to 1945, as well as those who served in the Iraq Conflict.
