Description
Humphreston House is a house dating from the late 18th century. The main front is constructed of coursed, thin bedded rubble, while the end and rear walls are made of coarser rubble. It features a concrete tile roof with stone copings and stands three storeys high with three windows. The ground and first floor windows are six-pane sashes, except for the left-hand ground floor window, which has been lengthened. There are two sliding Yorkshire sashes below ground level for the cellar, and the upper openings consist of nine-pane sashes. The central doorway has been partially stone blocked and glazed with a sash, and it is topped by a semi-circular fanlight with a keyed head, set in a pedimented architrave surround with fluted pilasters and lotus capitals. The house has a moulded stone parapet and end brick stacks, along with a 20th-century extension to the rear.
Inside, the entrance passage features raised and moulded panels on the walls, a chair rail, and a simple cornice. The Morning Room on the ground floor to the right retains complete 18th-century fittings, including a chair rail, wall panels, an acanthus frieze cornice, shutters, and window seats. The chimney-piece is adorned with swags and lotus capitals, and on either side, there are buffet niches with original shelving.
