Description

Lemail is a house dating from the late 18th century, likely built on an earlier site. It is constructed of stone rubble, featuring a moulded plinth and flat strings, and has a slate roof with hipped ends and brick end stacks. The building has a double depth plan with a central entrance that leads to a passage and a stair to the rear. There are two principal rooms at the front, heated by end stacks, and service rooms located at the rear. A cellar is situated below the right-hand side, and an attic may have been added in the early 19th century.

The exterior is two storeys high, with an attic and cellar. The symmetrical front has three windows, featuring late 18th or early 19th century tripartite hornless sashes and dressed stone segmental arches with keyblocks. Steps lead up to a 19th century panelled door and a 20th century timber porch, flanked by two tripartite sashes. Above, there are two similar sashes with a central three-centred arched opening that contains a late 18th or early 19th century three over six pane sash. Three additional sashes are located above, and there is a round-headed stair window on the rear elevation.

Inside, there is a wide entrance hall that leads to a late 18th or early 19th century stair, which may have been altered. A fine quality 18th century carved timber chimney-piece has been reset in the right-hand room. The roof structure dates from the 19th century and features morticed collars.
