Description

Nos. 11, 12, and 13 are three shops, forming the right-hand portion of a larger terrace (Nos. 14-18) and separated by the entrance to St Swithin's Place. These were built in the late 19th century. The shops are constructed of limestone ashlar with unseen roof coverings.

The building is four storeys high, including an attic, with each shop fronting with two windows. A continuous coped parapet rises to meet stacks at the left gable end. There is an attic cornice and a second-floor cornice. Raised lintels and sills are present at the attic level. The windows on the second and first floors have moulded, eared architraves; the first-floor architraves feature pulvinated friezes and cornices. The facades are articulated by pilasters with circular panels to the friezes. Projecting consoles are at the second and ground floor levels, with swan neck pediments for the second floor and segmental pediments for the ground floor.

No. 11, on the right, retains a good original shopfront with a cornice to the fascia and a wide overlight flanked by ornamental consoles to the half-glazed double doors. Large two-light, one-pane sash windows are present on each side. No. 12 has a narrower shopfront with a four-pane overlight above the half-glazed door to the right, and a 20th-century plate glass window to the left. No. 13 has an even narrower front with a recessed door and overlight to the right, and a three-pane overlight to a two-pane plate glass shop window to the left.

The interior has not been inspected.
